Furnish.app Motion Advert
Client
Furnish.app
Project Duration
2 Months
Summary
Whilst working as a data labeller for Furnish.app, I managed to get to work on an advert to bring in new clients to use an app that would help them in their search for their next bit of furniture.
The project involved the need to develop a story that clients would be able to relate to through the struggles of the character and the need for an app that could make furniture shopping easy.
The Process
The main aim of this advert’s story was to show a person struggling to find their next bit of furniture due to the over-complicated nature of shopping online. It would be important to emphasise the use of the app simplifying and making the process more enjoyable.
As it was my first time trying to show a message through an advert, I wanted to storyboard the full animation before touching photoshop or after-effects. This especially helped to keep me within the 30 second time limit set out by my employer as I could ensure the full story was told from how each scene was planned.
In the first two scenes, I highlight the issue of the customer needing to get new furniture but then having to deal with all the trouble of trying to find new furniture online. And as the story progresses, they find the app, and show the basics of how it is used.
With each scene planned out, I then used Illustrator to create the separate items that would be needed for the animation. I was able to import the files through to after-effects using the Overlord extension by Battle Extension.

The project involved rigging a character with the Duik Bassel.2 plug-in which allowed me to animate the character for use in the animation. It was important to keep everything labelled as there ended up being many layers in order to animate the character.
The storyboard also included plans for the text in each scene to add to help explain the story and app. I used simple animations on the text and a roughen edge effect to make the text appear more natural in the ad.
Each scene was separated into their own compositions to keep things organised within the main comp that would allow easy transitions for the story. And from this main comp, I was able to apply a grain and noise effect to reduce banding and add texture.
